Is Google Anti Cosmetic Surgery?

Before anyone asks, I was not looking to find the services of a Cosmetic Surgeon, someone brought to my attention the current #1 result in Google UK for the term ‘Cosmetic Surgery’.

For all those lazy people, here is the search result link: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLJ,GGLJ:2006-28,GGLJ:en&q=cosmetic+surgery

Look at the #1 listing - AwfulPlasticSurgery.com  - So the questions are:

A) Now are Google simply looking after it’s legion of searches?

Or

B) Is it that the information on AwfulPlasticSurgery.com is extremely funny and  the site deserves to be #1!

Personally, I go with B, some of the images of the celebs that have had cosmetic surgery are shocking and anyone who is considering cosmetic surgery should have a very good look at this site.

The next question is - Is the site relevant? Should it actually hold the #1 position for ‘Cosmetic Surgery’? Should it even be in the top 10 for ‘Cosmetic Surgery’? How does this result help someone who is looking for information on Cosmetic Surgery?

Sure, the site has relevance, but it is only offering a one-side argument to Cosmetic Surgery. It does not make reference to all the people that Cosmetic Surgery has helped; Think of burns victims, people who have sufferred disfigurement, women who have been unfortunate enough to contract breast cancer - How does AwfulPlasticSurgery.com help them?

The clever marketing part

How much money is the site owner making? Simple answer - loads 

With Google Adsense galore on the site pages, the owner of AwfulPlasticSurgery.com will be making a mint. There are those conspiracy theorists that may suggest this is the reason why the site holds a top position, after all surely it’s in Google’s best interests to have their ad network visible to as many people as possible.

I’d be surprised if the site didn’t have something like a 15-20% Adsense click-through rate.

Put another way, the site is a cash cow

Anyone who has a top position and is taking revunue via Google Adwords based on a such a high value Keyphrase such as ‘Cosmetic Surgery’ gets my vote of approval - fair play!

So is it a useful site? Is it right the site holds #1 position? You decide

Promotion of celebrity ridicule is great - When it comes to cosmetic surgery, celebrities seem to have more money than sense. After all you can only cut a tomato so many times before it becomes messy pulp. The same can be said for Cosmetic Surgery - If you over indulge then you are likely to end up a bloody mess - and that is where AwfulPlasticSurgery.com comes in!
